I) Faculties and Departments
c) The Economics-Sociology Faculty
4) The Department of Economics
α) Profile
At the entry level the Department of Economics will consist of the following degree programmes:
- Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA)
- Bachelor of Applied Economics
- Bachelor of Economics
Through the programmes in economics students should obtain the skills to recognize and represent economic connections, to analyze them with scientific methods and to work independently on possible solutions to them. In addition students should also acquire the skills to recognize interdisciplinary problems and to develop possible contributions in economics to solve such problems.
The degree programmes in economics should make it possible for students to enter into fields of activity in trade and industry, banks, insurance companies, non-profit associations, international organizations, public administration, academia and the independent professions.
β) Structure and Focus of Studies
The concentration consists of a three-year bachelor’s programme. At a later point in time we plan to offer a two-year master’s for graduates of the bachelor’s degree programme. Undergraduate studies in the first and second year are the same in all three possible bachelor’s degree programmes. In the third year students choose one of the three bachelor’s programmes (Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Bachelor of Applied Economics, Bachelor of Economics) by combining the specialization modules. The bachelor’s curriculum will be offered both as a major and a minor concentration.
Besides transmitting academic training and theoretical knowledge application will also play a role in this programme. In cooperation with foreign universities and business enterprises students should be offered opportunities such as practicums and entry-level positions both domestically and abroad. In addition to English a second foreign language will be required of students in the bachelor’s programme in economics. Possible second languages are German, French, Spanish and Business Chinese. A two-month practicum is required in the course of the degree programme. The period between semesters between the 2nd and 3rd year of studies are to be reserved for the practicum. A longer practicum is also possible. At most the practicum can be divided into two blocks of one month each.
