X) Constitution and Organs of the Nihal European University in Sudan
f) The Senate
The Senate is the most important organ of academic self-administration within the Nihal European University in Sudan. It is composed of:
- The President (as chair)
- The Vice-President
- The Prorectors
- The Deans of the Faculties
- One elected professor or (in the start-up stages) a lecturer from each department
- One teaching assistant per faculty
- One student per faculty
- Possibly up to three non-scientific employees
The members will as a rule be elected for two years; the student member for one year only.
The main responsibilities of the Senate are making decisions in connection with the founding, change and / or elimination of degree programmes, facilities, committees, testing regulations, the number of annual admissions, prerequisites of study such as tuition fees and in the area of arts and research. In addition the Executive Staff will present the Senate with an annual report. In principle though the Senate can also take a position on the decisions of all university committees beyond its actual legal competence. Excluded are official political statements which are not germane to the university. Likewise student representation on the Senate is not to be used for political concerns or statements of opinion.
