V) The Central Testing Office
The advantage of a central testing office of the university is that all examination files of the Nihal European University in Sudan can be administered in a centralized site. For simplifying administration further we should also consider whether the Central Testing Office should be merged together with the student services department, since doing so would avoid redundancy in administration and the necessity of students filing twice to register, take examinations or continue on for a master’s degree.
From a technical point of view all testing during degree programmes (including the orientation tests) will be taken on by the individual departments, and the results will then be reported to the Central Testing Office. One might consider whether at a later stage, subject to financial considerations, a central registration system should be introduced. In such a case students could register independently in order to take an exam, and faculty or the departments could then enter the results electronically. This system would have to be made secure from hacking or attacks while at the same time guaranteeing the identity of the person making the entries.
From the start the final exams will be registered for at the Central Testing Office, while their supervision will be the responsibility of the individual departments and their faculty. Nonetheless for guaranteeing high standards the Testing Office should have the option of determining a second examiner, especially in the case of newly hired lecturers.
